A PTFE-lined reducer is a specialty pipe fitting to join two pipes of varying diameters with a high degree of chemical resistance and efficiency of flow. It has an internal lining of Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE)—a non-reactive, corrosion-resistant material—and is thus well-suited for applications in industries that deal with aggressive chemicals, acids, or high-purity chemicals.PTFE-lined reducers find general application in chemical processing, pharmaceuticals, food and beverages, and water treatment facilities. The PTFE lining insulates the process fluid from coming into contact with anything other than the inert surface, minimizing contamination and extending equipment life. There are two broad types of PTFE-lined reducers: concentric, whose centerlines coincide, and eccentric, where they don’t—both specifically designed for particular flow applications.
